The server administration programs and Windows SharePoint Services on this Web server are not compatible

I’m at what I hope to be the tail end of a long, and I mean loooong, drawn out Sharepoint Services Upgrade. I’ve been using 2.0 forever, and want to upgrade to 3.0 to support Office 2007, as well as to get on the newer version.

Well, I finally had a successful migration in my test environment! Yay! Now, I’ll just wipe it all out, try it again, just to make sure it wasn’t a fluke.

Here’s where I run into the problem. After uninstalling everything, and then re-installing Sharepoint Team Services 2, I received the error below:

How to Manually Download Updated Definitions for Windows Defender

I ran into an issue where Windows Defender couldn't download updates, when I would try, I would receive the error:

"The Program can't download definition updates. Error Found 0x80240022"

What's Up?
Art has been getting in to Twitter a lot more lately. Starting to get back in to trying to learn something about C++.
Mike cleaned out his worm bin. Also, he may have ruined his Cannon Digital Camera. He also has been playing with the views and panels of drupal, but we need to upgrade our site.
With the help of Casey from Sci-Fi Surplus, Mike figured out how to record his Skype calls. Thanks Casey! This was the first podcast that we have used the process with, so hopefully it works out.

- Swap File - It's a good idea to put your swap file on a separate drive. No advantage if it's a different logical drive on the same physical hard drive. You can argue about fragmentation, butfor goodness sake, don't compress it.
- Speaking of compression, don't compress your entire data and system drives.
- Have the floppy or CD as the first item in your bios' boot menu.
- Leave the default passwords intact.
- Don't back your server up.
- Don't test your backups
- Don't ever check out the logs for your backups
- Don't make sure that you have a backup agent for exchange / sql server / big application

A Tip - Isolated FTP Server
The base share should be named the same as the domain that the user accounts belong to. If the accounts only exist on the local machine, then the folder name should be "localhost". Under those, place the user named folders.

Otherwise you'll get:
"530 User %username% cannot log in, home directory inaccessible."
"Login Failed"

Unexpected Site Outage

Some of you may have been greeted by a "500 internal server error" when you were accessing this site. Sorry about that. Somehow, my .htaccess file became corrupted.

Thanks to Mark at BlueHost for figuring it out and fixing it!

I was really impressed because I called them, and only had to wait for something like 3 seconds before I was able to talk to him.

Mike received a manly / geeky father's day present, that's right, he's got a Dremel. Look out!

The 3G iPhone is here! Gizmodo has a great FAQ, as well as a "real price" comparison based upon what you would pay after 2 years with the old iPhone, and with the new iPhone. Guess what? 3G is cheaper.

Mike Loves the Fujitsu Tablet, and he loves Vista's tablet features. Offline File Folders work so much better than in XP.

Coming out on DVD, welcome home Be Kind Rewind (Yay!), so does Roscoe Jenkins!

Netflix has a streaming set top movie player.

Mike mentioned that he prints everything off for his planner, and wants to say how great DIY Planner is. They have free printable organizer templates.

Podshow is not Mevio, looks like they are going in some new commercial direction.

Art mentions a computer problem that he's having, don't fear, after the podcast was recorder, Art found a solution.

Recently I performed a repair install of Windows XP SP 2. When the repair was finished, my computer notified me there were some updates available. In fact, there were ninety-something updates available.

After thinking about it for a few seconds, this made some sense to me. I had just used my XP SP 2 CD to repair my system, so basically that's all I had here. Just an SP 2 system with no updates installed.

Exchange 2003: Unable to add to the server Junk E-mail Lists

If you're using Exchange 2003, and have users who make use of their junk e-mail lists, then this post may come in handy.

Exchange has a limit of 512 KB for your junk e-mail lists. This is a cumulative total for all of your lists, safe senders, blocked senders, etc.

I ran into this problem and had a heck of a time finding the solution for it. The exact error message is pretty scarce on the internet, and even scarcer on the Microsoft Web Sites.
